The Heat Sheet
Heat sheets list all the swim events 1 through 69, along with the participants in each event, what heat they are in, and what lane they are in. You will also see your swimmer's best time in that event or NT for "no time". It is a good idea to go through the heat sheet and highlight all of the events your child is entered in.
Marking Your Swimmer
It's a big help if parents mark their swimmers with a Sharpie before arriving at the meet. Here is what you need to do:
- Write your swimmers name in big letters going down his/her right arm. This helps the parents that are lining up the swimmers. (See photo above.)
- Go through the heat sheet and every time you find your child's name, highlight it. Your child may be entered in several events.
- Make 3 column headings on your child's left arm - E, H, L. These stand for event, heat, lane.
- Go through the heat sheet and find your swimmer's name which you highlighted.
- For each event, write the event number, the heat number, and the lane number under the corresponding column heading.
Let's say your swimmer is Chloe Benson. See how she is highlighted on the heat sheet. She is in Event 1, Heat 4. The 2 in front of her name represents the lane. Here's what you should write on your child's arm:
Continue through the heat sheet and write all of your swimmer's events on his or her arm. In the above example, Chloe was also swimming in events 11 and 21.
